Velocity gain fastball split

The Vernon H&L Glass Velocity split a pair of Under 14 girls fastball games, losing 12-5 to West Kelowna before outlasting Summerland 11-8.

The Vernon H&L Glass Velocity split a pair of Under 14 girls fastball games, losing 12-5 to West Kelowna before outlasting Summerland 11-8.

Aspen Schalin and Camryn Beer pitched for Vernon in the victory. Schalin struck out the first three batters in the second inning.

Defensive play of the game went to 10-year- -old Maddie Blazek, who doubled off two Summerland runners to end the third inning.

West Kelowna broke open a two-run game in the top of the fourth with five runs.

Maddie Harms, Schalin, and Beer shared the pitching duties.

Schalin had another good outing as she struck out five batters in two innings.

Defensive play of the game went to Blazek, who caught a deep ball in left field to end the second inning and strand two West Kelowna players.

“The team is starting to gel together and will be a team to beat in the Kamloops Mother’s Day Tournament,” said head coach Chris Harms.

The invitational event opens Saturday with the finals Sunday afternoon.
