The Vernon Secondary School Panthers want to see what some of their future football players could look like.
The Panthers will host a Prospect Training Camp for Grade 6 and 7 students from their feeder elementary schools – BX, Silver Star and Hillview – on Sunday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at VSS.
Registration is free (space is limited) and includes a free hot dog lunch.
The camp will offer an introduction to football, with stretching and warm-up, basic rules information and skills.
The session will end with fun 7-on-7 games.
There will be no contact activity.
Some of the VSS coaches will be on the field, including former B.C. Lions all-star centre Angus Reid, who is the offensive lineman coach. Current junior and senior teams will be on the field as well, to offer assistance as both coaches and leaders.
“We feel that this is a great way to show our players how we can give back to our community and help the young people of today develop an interest in football,” said Panthers’ team manager Rhonda Hove.
Head coach Sean Smith has built the VSS school program into a provincial powerhouse, winning B.C. championships at the senior and junior level.
To register for the camp, parents or guardians can contact Hove via email at rhondahove@yahoo.ca.
