The Vernon Vortex Speed Skating Club recorded a combined 16 personal best times, with every member improving in at least one distance at the Classic Chill short track interclub speedskating event in Kamloops last weekend.

The Vortex were led by Nathan Stewart and newbie speedster Eric Anderson each recording four personal best times.

Nate Benn had improvements in three distances, Daniel Hall and Mattias Isobe each improved two of their times,  and Laura Hall improved her 500-metre time.

Every member of the team achieved their qualification times for the B.C. Short Track Championships to be held in Abbotsford in March.

Said head coach Michael Hall: “With the apparent formality of these standards out of the way, the team can focus on further improving their speed and tactics to better position themselves in the provincial rankings and work towards qualifying to represent B.C. in the Western Canadian Championships.”

The Vortex team carries sponsorship from Interior Savings Credit Union, Mackenzie Financial and Manulife Financial.
