Dale Olson will run his Hoops & Hustle camp this summer while wishing the 2017 high school basketball season would start sooner than late October.

Olson’s Maroons finished 11th at the 45th B.C. Senior AA Boys Basketball Championships at the Langley Events Centre with a young lineup.

Fulton, with just four Grade 12s on their roster, ambushed the Nechako Valley Vikings of Vanderhoof 71-49 Saturday morning.

Ike Olson supplied 19 points, 15 rebounds and seven steals to spark Fulton. Nate Banga pocketed 17 points and five assists, while Caden Doyle counted a dozen points and a dozen boards. All three starters are in Grade 11.

Fulton was ranked No. 9 in the 16-team extravaganza and opened by falling 71-57 to No. 8 Cambie Crusaders of Richmond. The Maroons then stuffed the 16th-ranked Prince Charles Comets of Creston 75-44 before losing 81-43 to No. 12 St. Thomas Aquinas Fighting Saints of North Vancouver.

“It was a good week,” said coach Olson. “We had the first game in hand and ran into a little foul trouble late in the third and let them steal the momentum and never really got it back. I was really proud of the way the boys played all year, with a ton of heart. This is a group that returns the core of the team next year and adds some great juniors to the mix. We are already getting excited for what the next season brings.

”This year’s team was a top ten team most of the year and had a fantastic year. Thanks to all our senior players that will be leaving us this year: Landon Currie, Satchel McDermid, Noah Lee and Jeff Han. Maroons for life.”
