Silver Sage Stables in Coldstream has been a busy place for families this Christmas — but the fun isn’t over yet.

Horse Drawn Okanagan is offering more sleigh rides after a short break Christmas and Boxing Day. The horses will take a well-deserved rest following three sold-out days of rides.

“We will all take some time to rest up, and be ready for another five days of rides over the Christmas break. The first few days of our event were super busy, we are thrilled with the turnout and we have received wonderful feedback from many of our guests,” said Kelly MacIntosh from Horse Drawn Okanagan. “The owners of Silver Sage Stables have made us feel right at home, they are gracious hosts and genuinely enjoy having the public come to enjoy their beautiful venue. Our horses settled in right away and are all going really well.”

Sleigh rides will run through Dec. 31, every half hour starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m.

“On December 21st, winter solstice, we had a very special guest join us. At 100 years of age, it was her wish to have a horse-drawn carriage ride, just like the day she was married. It was wonderful to have her family share this experience with her. And another young boy who was here from Asia had never seen snow before. He sat at the front of the sleigh as close as possible to the horses, and part way through the ride it began to snow. It’s just so special to give people these kinds of experiences with our horses.”

Although the weather is mild there is snow on the ground and it looks and feels festive at the stables. Add Christmas music, hot cocoa and cookies by the fire, and it’s a great holiday outing for families.

The event is helping generate funds for C.R.I.S. Adaptive Adventures, an Okanagan-based charitable organization that provides relief to people with physical and mental disabilities by developing and implementing outdoor and wilderness recreation programs.

Tickets are available in advance at www.ticketseller.ca 250-549-7469. The cost is $17.50 for adults, $10 for children 4-12 years, ages 3 and under free (no ticket is required and the child may be required to sit on the lap of a parent), and groups of 6 or more receive 10 per cent discount.

Silver Sage Stables is located at 7000 Learmouth Rd. in Coldstream. Sleigh rides are approximately 20-25 minutes long, sleighs can seat up to 16 people, and there are as many as four sleighs going at one time. Guests are encouraged to dress warmly and bring a seat cushion or lap blanket.
