World renowned jazz artist coming to Vernon

Singer sure to perform single Vernon Morning Star, inspired by last visit to club

Canadian jazz pianist, composer and vocalist Elizabeth Shepherd is coming to town.

The Vernon Jazz Club presents the world renowned artist Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Shepherd is currently touring with her talented quartet to promote her seventh album, Three Things.

She is sure to perform her single, Vernon Morning Star, a song inspired by a previous visit to the club.

Her discography includes seven original works that have won international acclaim. The Real Detroit Weekly has called her “a jazz virtuoso blessed with a pop sensibility”, while Mojo Magazine (UK) has described her as “an intellectual Esperanza Spalding.”

Shepherd’s quartet includes her original bandmates, Scott Kemp on bass and Colin Kingsmore on drums. Joining them will be Michael Occhipinti, a talented Toronto based guitarist, educator and a VJC favourite.

Shepherd’s creative energies have earned her Juno Award nominations, Polaris Music Award nominations and Indie music award for Best Jazz Album, and Best Jazz Vocalist. She has performed in jazz clubs around the world, including: Japan, China, Sweden, Mexico and Germany.

Her performances are characterized by an intimate connection with her audience, and her upcoming show at the Vernon Jazz Club promises to be no exception. The club’s cozy ambiance and exceptional acoustics will provide the perfect backdrop for an evening of exquisite music.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Elizabeth Shepherd grace our stage. Her unique blend of jazz and electronica will resonate with our audience, and we’re looking forward to a truly magical night of music,” said Vernon Jazz Club president Marilyn Merler.

Doors open for the show at 6:45 p.m. at the club, 3000 31st St., above Nolan’s Pharmacy.
