1 taken to hospital with burns from Vernon townhouse fire

Blaze sparked inside 25th Avenue unit Wednesday afternoon

Update: 5:50 p.m.

Vernon firefighters were tasked with rescuing a person from a burning townhome Wednesday.

City of Vernon communications manager Carolyn Baldridge says Vernon Fire Rescue Services was dispatched to Albert Place on 25th Avenue around 4 p.m. Feb. 7, after flames and heavy smoke had been reported.

“When crews arrived, there was heavy smoke and the sprinkler system was active,” said Fire Chief David Lind. “Thanks to the efforts of the crew, the fire was contained to a single unit and did not spread.”

A person was rescued from the home and taken to hospital by BC Ambulance Service.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation.
