North Okanagan artists showcase magic on the mountain

A community artist event will take place at SilverStar Mountain Resort Jan. 13 and 14

A new event featuring the works of local artists is coming to Vernon’s SilverStar Mountain Resort.

Inspired by a quote from B.C. Premier David Eby about the importance of celebrating community, two SilverStar locals took up the challenge.

Patti Wild and Deb Dell put out the call and gathered up a group of artists for a January showcase and sale at the Chilcoot Centre.

“We have so many talented artists right here at SilverStar,” said Wild. “I love bringing community together.”

The inaugural event takes place Jan. 13 and 14 and will feature more than 20 artists, with something for everyone. Mediums on display will include pottery, glass, jewelry, paintings, wood, knitting, photography and quilting.

Longtime SilverStar resident, artist and author Ginny Hall will demonstrate the art of scrimshaw, showing the intricacies of scrollwork, carvings and engravings in bone.

Folks can wander over to the Chilcoot Centre on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. There, they will be sure to be impressed by the works of art being offered.

The organizers thanked sponsors Destination SilverStar, the Vance Creek Hotel, Arts Council of the North Okanagan, Okanagan Wine Festivals Society, Bannister and the Co-op.
