Update: 4:20 p.m. May 2

A boil water notice issued April 30 to some Greater Vernon Water customers in the Shantz Road area has been rescinded.

The Regional District of North Okanagan lifted the notice Thursday, saying bacterial testing results and disinfection levels are within normal drinking water standards in the distribution system.

A boil water notice has been issued for a small area in Vernon.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) and Interior Health are advising people supplied by Greater Vernon Water in the area along Shantz Road (as shown on the above map) that they are on a precautionary boil water notice until sampling results confirm the water is safe to drink.

An unplanned repair resulted in a loss of water pressure and increased turbidity to some residences in the affected area. As a result, the RDNO is issuing the boil water notice and is flushing and sampling to ensure the continued safety of the water system.

Residents in the area may experience reduced water pressure, water discolouration and/or air. They are advised to run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

The RDNO says its level of service and treatment has been maintained, but customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing any food, drinking water, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing teeth.

The RDNO will advise customers with a hand delivered notice when the boil water notice has been rescinded.

Questions can be directed to the RDNO Utilities Department at 250-550-3700.
