A group of Vernon students is looking to help feed the less fortunate with a food drive this weekend.

Students from Vernon Secondary School will be at the Vernon Superstore on Anderson Way Sunday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., collecting donations with all proceeds going to the Upper Room Mission.

“Food is a human right and is an immediate tangible way to help someone. Every donation of food helps,” reads a poster for the event.

The students will be accepting donations of non-perishable or perishable items. Recommended items include sauces, soups, beans, pasta, fruits, vegetables, meat, milk and eggs. Small donations of cash will also be accepted.

There will also be a donation box in the VSS school office for those who wish to drop off items there or have their child do so.

The Upper Room Mission works to care for and improve the lives of the poor, unsheltered and marginalized in the community. The Mission provides a day shelter, with more than 70 people accessing drop-in services each day, including meals, laundry, clothing and connections to community resources.
