Classes have resumed early at a Vernon school even if it’s just make-believe.

Three days of filming got underway Monday at Vernon Secondary School for Drink Slay Love, a teen-vampire movie.

“We want to be a good citizen and promote the Okanagan,” said Joe Rogers, superintendent, of the Vernon School District’s decision to approve use of the school.

“There is a lot of employment from the film and some local kids are extras.

Filming is taking place inside the school while numerous trailers have taken over the parking lot along 18th Street.

Vancouver-based Sepia Films, Los Angeles-based Just Singer Entertainment, and co-executive producer Bella Thorne are responsible for the film, which will be shot here until Sept. 13.

Drink Slay Love stars Cierra Ramirez and Gregg Sulkin, and it will premiere on Lifetime and A&E in early 2017.

Rogers hopes the film will motivate some of the local extras to consider future careers in film and theatre.

“Our kids will be able to go into their drama class at school and talk about their experience,” he said.

Besides VSS, one day of filming will also occur at Clarence Fulton Secondary.

The school district is renting the facilities but Rogers would not get into financial details.

“We will make some money and put it back into the district,” he said.

The production’s primary hub is the former Far West building on Highway 6.
