Vernon Panthers off to national football championships

Six players from VSS will be representing Team BC at three seperate showcases

A slew of Vernon Secondary School (VSS) Panthers football players are off to national competiitons.

Seniors Jace Collard, Austin Dunnill and Cisko Hove will represent B.C. as a part of the Team B.C. Canada Cup team at the Football Canada Cup July 9-15 in Edmonton.

The compeition is the national championship for teams at the U18 men’s level. The tournament consists of eight provincial men’s teams, with Saskatchewan being the defending champion.

Players trained at the regional level in Vernon with other players from the Okanagan, and then had tryouts in Vancouver against players freom throughout the province. Game one is against Ontario on Sunday, July 9.

Meanwhile, Anderson Bicknell will be representing the province with the B.C. U18 Selects team in a tournament in Edmonton, from July 11-16.

Junior Panthers’ Ayden Mcdonald and Ayden Stringer have suited up for the U16 B.C. team at the Football Canada Western Challenge in Regina July 4-8. That tournamnet will see B.C. battle Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
