As the Vernon BMX Club cruises into its 40th anniversary, it is taking a win as the #1 track in Canada.
Region ranked, the local track is #10 out of 117 for western North America and out of 399 track in all of North America, Vernon’s is #25 overall.
“We are completely killin the BMX world here in Vernon,” said Shylo Orchard, Vernon BMX president.
That gives even more reason to celebrate, therefore the club has a few big events coming up at Ranger Park.
A Race for Life in support of the BC Children’s Hospital takes place Aug. 23.
Then break out the ’80s and ’90s fashions for a RAD afternoon-evening of riding, memories and a movie Aug. 28.
Whether you raced back in the day, cheered your kids on, or are still hitting jumps today, everyone is invited to celebrate the history and future of the club.
“See old friends and make new ones,” the club said. “Grab that retro gear and wear it with pride. Dust off the old bike and come line up in the gate.”
Free one-day memberships will be available for anyone wanting to ride the track. Registration will be from 3-4 p.m. with racing to follow.
“Make your own motos with friends and family, one lap takes all,” said the club.
Trophies will be awarded to race winners.
Concession will be open for drinks and snacks with a free dinner as soon as races are done.
After racing, come watch the ‘80s BMX movie RAD under the stars on the big screen.
“Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate,” said the club. “Bring lawn chairs and blankets for the movie. Bring old photos and stories to share. Dress in all your ‘80s coolness.”
Sept. 6th is VIP Sponsorship Nite, followed by a scholarship race Sept. 13. With all funds collected, members can apply for Continuing Education scholarships.
