Employee safety important

As flags fly at half-mast at all Tolko divisions today, we honour the memory of those whose lives have been lost or hurt in the workplace, and those who have suffered work-related illnesses.

Leap Manifesto

I couldn’t help but wonder who the messenger, Jim Shepard, was behind a letter posted here April 23, regarding the NDP and the Leap Manifesto written by Naomi Klein and co-authored with her partner Avi Lewis.

Election time

Education must be a priority

I taught for 33 years in the Vernon School District in elementary schools. Sixteen of those years were as a principal. When I started teaching in 1964, students with special needs were in separate schools with small groups and support staff.

Great care

I had the misfortune of needing emergency attention twice this past year. My good fortune is that, even though I don’t live in Vernon, it occurred both times at your hospital. The last time was midnight Sunday.

Mayors make a mistake

The mayors of Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Enderby, Armstrong and Spallumcheen are wrong to support Greg Kyllo’s re-election bid for the Shuswap riding in the May 9 election.

Leap manifesto

The NDP’s Leap Manifesto, accepted by New Democrats across B.C. and Canada as a guide for our future, sets out a sweeping plan to re-engineer our economy and lives. It seeks to end the use of gasoline and all fossil fuels. It will stop construction of pipelines and new highways. The idea that government needs to control expenditure to keep taxes low will be abandoned.
