Post-secondary education

In Vernon, we’re fortunate to have post-secondary institutions that are nearby and have, historically, been widely available. Studies show that education and income are correlated. Education equates to longer lives and more active citizens in civic, community and economic spheres. Education is positive for communities so it makes sense for public policy to support it.

Letter draws criticism

I was an undecided voter who has lived in B.C. all of my life. I have always trusted my local papers to deliver to myself and the public an unbiased take of the news and current events.

Stickle influences election

Leap Manifesto

I was shocked and disgusted at the audacity of Jim Shepard’s letter to the editor in the newspaper. Does he think we are idiots?

Participation essential

True democracy may be an unattainable ideal, but elections give ordinary British Columbians an opportunity to influence the future priorities and moral standards of our provincial government. The qualities and skills of a candidate are more important than his or her party affiliation.

Cartoon upsets

I was shocked. Ingrid Rice’s cartoon in the April 12 Morning Star, under your very bold declaration, OurView, emphatically stated that, “when you consider B.C.’s economic growth was better under the NDP than the Liberals.” This is a downright fallacy or alternate truth, or?

Teachers fought

Over a 15-year time span, tens of thousands of B.C. teachers stood up for what they knew was a malicious attack on the children of B.C., and indirectly, the larger social fabric of the province. As one of their first acts of governing, the B.C. Liberals, under education minister Christy Clark, illegally and unconstitutionally stripped B.C. teachers of their collective bargaining rights.

Candidates questioned

I have two questions for Vernon-Monashee candidates Eric Foster and Barry Dorval. I would like to see a public answer to decide if I can give the candidate my vote May 9.

Rail trail

Contrary to some recent negativity directed to the Okanagan Rail Trail, I think the trail is completely on track.

Employee safety important

As flags fly at half-mast at all Tolko divisions today, we honour the memory of those whose lives have been lost or hurt in the workplace, and those who have suffered work-related illnesses.
